Living in Flower Mound

Flower Mound is a leafy, mostly residential town beside Grapevine Lake, known for its parks and trails, planned growth and highly rated schools, minutes from DFW Airport.

Overview

About Flower Mound

Flower Mound takes its name from a 12.5-acre mound in the center of town, still covered with native wildflowers and grasses. Settlers used the site for religious camp meetings in the 1840s, the area was permanently settled in the 1850s, and residents incorporated in 1961.

Growth took off after DFW International Airport opened to the south in 1974. Flower Mound had 75,956 residents at the 2020 census, the largest population of any Texas municipality that calls itself a town. A small part reaches into Tarrant County.

The town has invested heavily in its park system and an extensive trail network, and it uses a "smart growth" approach to planning, which helps it keep a greener, lower-density feel than many neighbors.
