Living in Grapevine
Grapevine pairs a historic Main Street and Texas wine-country charm with Grapevine Lake and a front-door location at DFW Airport, between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Overview
About Grapevine
In 1843, Sam Houston and Republic of Texas commissioners camped at Grape Vine Springs to meet with leaders of 10 Native American nations, and the resulting treaty opened the area to homesteaders. The settlement took its name from the wild grapes on the Grape Vine Prairie, and Grapevine, established in 1844, is the oldest settlement in Tarrant County.
Grapevine had 50,631 residents at the 2020 census, with small portions in Dallas and Denton counties. The city includes a larger share of DFW International Airport than any other city, and Grapevine Lake, impounded by the Corps of Engineers in 1952, borders its north side.
Historic Main Street is the heart of town, with restaurants, wine-tasting rooms and festivals such as GrapeFest, and TEXRail commuter trains link Grapevine to downtown Fort Worth and DFW Airport.

Property taxes
Grapevine property tax rates
2025 adopted rates per $100 of taxable value, from the Texas Comptroller:
| Taxing unit | Rate per $100 |
|---|---|
| Tarrant County | $0.1862 |
| City of Grapevine | $0.2372 |
| Grapevine-Colleyville ISD | $0.8686 |
| Combined (before special districts) | $1.2920 |
Example only: on a home appraised at the typical Grapevine value of $548,940, the combined rate works out to about $7,092 a year before exemptions. A homestead exemption lowers the school-tax portion (school districts must exempt $140,000 of a homestead's value, with an additional $60,000 for owners 65 or older or disabled, per the Texas Comptroller). Your actual bill depends on the appraised value, exemptions and any special districts.
Special districts (hospital, college, emergency services, MUD/PID and others) are not included and vary by property. Appraisal district: Tarrant County. This is general information, not tax advice.

- Flood risk: look up the property on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center and ask your insurance agent about flood coverage, even outside a mapped flood zone.
